| You sense it after just a few miles. This car simply has a different feel to it than other cars. "Well, what does the MINI feel like then?" you might be asked. Most people would respond with words like "crisp", "taut" or "agile". Such descriptions are music to Uwe Gaedicke's ears. As Project Manager for the MINI chassis, he is responsible for the car's road feel, which is so frequently compared to that of a go-kart. Indeed, the MINI has the best prerequisites for achieving this. Take the basic layout of the car. For an overall length of just 3.60 metres, a wheelbase of 2.46 metres is "a very decent figure", as Gaedicke says. In general, one can say that the longer the wheelbase, the greater the ride comfort. In the case of the MINI, it isn't just that the wheelbase in relation to the overall car length is very long, but the wheels are also positioned as far out as possible on the four corners of the car. Not only the length, but the width of the car, too, has been exploited to the maximum degree. This configuration - one could almost talk about a chassis floorplan - is what gives the MINI the agility and tautness that suggest comparisons with a go-kart.
