MINI is - and has always been - an urban brand. Started as a response to the first gasoline crisis in the late 1950's in London, our small footprint, creative use of space, and innovative design and engineering are the foundations of an iconic brand.
Following the same creative spirit, in 2016, MINI launched URBAN-X, the program for startups reimagining city life.
Entrepreneurs from around the world have a key role to play in helping cities become more sustainable, livable, and loveable. With over 70 companies in their portfolio, URBAN-X has created the leading program for urban tech entrepreneurs, providing them with the network and necessary resources to have an unparallel advantage in scaling up their solutions.
Our program is focused on customer traction, product development, and fundraising –offering high-potential founders a chance to change what’s possible in cities around the world. URBAN-X companies work shoulder-to-shoulder with world-class electrical and mechanical engineers, software developers, industrial design talent, user-experience and interface designers fully-funded by MINI. We work with startups who share our commitment to sustainability and emissions-reduction, building human-centric solutions and challenging the status quo.
Over the course of 20 weeks, we offer a custom-tailored journey to get to ‘product-market fit’ through an intensive and immersive program, both virtually and at our headquarters in New Lab in Brooklyn, New York. We work closely with our colleagues at BMW iVentures and BMW Startup Garage to connect teams to internal resources where appropriate.
We’re focused on the sectors that have the biggest impact on emissions-reductions in cities, and climate adaptation and mitigation: transportation and mobility, buildings and real estate, construction, energy and the grid, water, food, waste, infrastructure and industry, as well as related sectors like public health, safety and government services.
