When Alec Issigonis designed the first Mini in the 1950s, he didn’t intend to create an iconic design admired by generations. He was pragmatic, setting out to design a vehicle that addressed important social issues of his day, including oil shortages and traffic congestion. Nonetheless, his creation has been enshrined in history. His precedent, the use of design as a response to big social questions, is what inspired us to create A/D/O, named after Issigonis’ original design team, codenamed the Amalgamated Drawing Office.
