When MINI started exploring a speedster model, the determination to combine the very best of those sporty vehicles Italian ancestry with its iconic British design principles meant the results were guaranteed to turn heads.
The Superleggera concept or “superlight” ideal is the original vision from the fine car-manufacturing region of north Italy. The conceptual construction technique was first put to the test in the mid-1930s, proving so popular and enduring that the term has fallen into common parlance. BMW 328 Touring Roadster made the most of the technology around that era with its revolutionary sports car. But standards compliancy and inadequate suspension issues saw Superleggera consigned to the pits.
Fast forward to MINI Superleggera Vision, a heart-racing blend of high-speed performance, lightweight, cutting-edge chassis construction and movie star good looks. The intention? To celebrate the superlight quality, performance and sheer love of bygone days of motoring in a car equipped with the very latest functionalities and technology.
MINI’s designers teamed with coachbuilder Touring Superleggera to bring the ultimate in authentic results to the cars look and feel. The superstructure, crafted by hand and moulded over a lightweight aluminium frame forms into a stretched bonnet that demands you run your hands over it, with achingly beautiful, sweeping lines that run the length of the bodywork to the tail fins. An elongated wheelbase and short overhangs owe their signature looks to a classic British roadster. MINI’s iconic “bull dog stance”, corner set wheels, hailed for their go-kart like road handling complete the vision, along with a symbolic nod to the union jack in a flare of rear end LED lights.
