A DIGITAL QUANTUM LEAP.

THE NEW MINI FAMILY FEATURES INSPIRING INNOVATION IN THE INTERIOR – WITH AN OLED DISPLAY OF THE LIKE NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN THE AUTOMOTIVE WORLD. WELCOME TO THE INTERACTIVE FUTURE OF MINI.

We are taking nothing less than a quantum leap into the digital age with our new MINI models. The focus here is on the iconic central instrument: the MINI Interaction Unit. Its circular OLED display delivers brilliant colour and blends perfectly into the interior of the new MINI family.

“We are taking a massive leap into the digital world with the new MINI family and, in so doing, underscoring the charismatic heritage of the brand. The iconic central display in the new MINI family is round and will be filled with round content for the first time. I am convinced that the digital power of the new models will delight MINI customers around the world,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

Yet this is by no means the only innovation that MINI fans can look forward to. All in all, the models are rolling off the production line with a whole host of digital highlights. “We are presenting our all-new MINI family with a unique technology package,” explains Frank Weber, BMW AG board member responsible for development. “It is based on the latest tech stack from BMW and brings a very specific MINI flavour to signature brand-defining functions such as the Experience Modes and the voice assistant. The result is a display of cutting-edge digital fireworks with a sharp eye for detail.”

THESE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW MINI FAMILY*:

1.

THE NEW MINI OPERATING SYSTEM 9 - OPTIMISED INTERACTION FOR TOUCH AND VOICE CONTROL.

The new “Charismatic Simplicity” design language is reflected in the aesthetic of the user interface, combining functional and emotional elements in a natural way. The reduced design uses all-new graphics to create a modern look. Static and dynamic elements blend perfectly into the form of the MINI Interaction Unit, adhering to a clear structure.

The emotional connection between the new MINI models and their drivers is taken to another level thanks to the MINI Experience Modes. The Core, Green and Go-Kart Modes come as standard, each with their specific user interface design. Up to five additional Experience Modes can also be selected as optional extras.

Yet what does this actually mean? The MINI Interaction Unit displays different designs and content depending on the mode selected – in other words, individualised worlds inside the MINI. One particular highlight here is the way in which the typical MINI interior lighting is reinterpreted. A projector on the back of the OLED display bathes the dashboard in coordinated worlds of colour and patterns. The combination of the projection, ambient lighting and MINI Interaction Unit thus creates a unique, immersive experience that extends as far as the door trim.

3.

Distinctive sounds for all-electric MINI models.

The sound concepts typically associated with the brand are also part of the new MINI family’s digital user experience. The range includes all-new driving sounds in the interior, a distinctive MINI brand sound for identification purposes on the outside, jingles for the new MINI Experience Modes and 30 new sound signals with information and warning functions.

The new sounds provide an emotional experience in the interior for all drivers and send an audible statement to the outside world, creating yet another distinctive MINI feature on an acoustic level. Drivers of the new MINI Cooper Electric will be the first to experience these sounds.

MINI INTELLIGENT PERSONAL ASSISTANT – VISUALLY ACCOMPANIED BY MINI OR SPIKE.

A full-featured voice assistant has found its way into the cockpit of the MINI models for the first time. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated using the greeting “Hey MINI” or by pressing the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel. Voice-controlled interaction on the circular OLED display takes the form of an animation featuring graphical elements, typography and an avatar. In terms of the display, drivers can choose between “MINI” – a stylised image of a MINI – and the new digital MINI assistant known as “SPIKE”.

5.

MINI Navigation – fresh map designs and cloud-based navigation with charge-optimised route planning.

Compared to the previous generation, the cloud-based navigation system features significantly improved performance and particularly intuitive destination entry. It enables fast and dynamic route calculation based on precise real-time traffic data delivered at short intervals, which is then combined with predictive models. When the navigation app is selected, the map fills the entire OLED display. The colour of the displayed map adapts to suit the selected MINI Experience Mode. Buildings can appear in 3D if desired.

MINI Connected Store – AirConsole gaming, video streaming, Spotify and an ever growing selection of apps.

In conjunction with the optional MINI Connected Package, the new MINI Connected Store offers access to an ever growing range of practical and entertaining apps, including options for gaming, music and video streaming.

Having already been launched in current BMW vehicles, fans of the new MINI family can now also look forward to a form of in-car gaming that is unique in the automotive sector. Drivers and passengers can play so-called casual games in the AirConsole app when the vehicle is stationary – to kill some time while waiting for their vehicle’s high-voltage battery to charge, for example.

Music streaming apps like Spotify and Amazon Music have been adapted to the MINI Operating System 9 so that they integrate perfectly into the round MINI Interaction Unit, enabling MINI customers to enjoy an intuitive and visually appealing music streaming experience. Spotify accounts can be conveniently linked by means of a QR code.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available in the MINI Operating System 9 for wireless smartphone connectivity. Besides appearing on the MINI Interaction Unit, relevant information can also be shown on the optionally available head-up display.

GREATER FLEXIBILITY AND DIGITAL VEHICLE ACCESS WITH THE MINI DIGITAL KEY PLUS.

The optionally available MINI Digital Key Plus is another highlight of the new MINI family. Once this has been set up on a compatible Apple, Google or Samsung device, the new MINIs provide a friendly welcome as soon as drivers approach them thanks to ultra-wideband technology. The welcome continues inside once the doors have been opened, rounded off with a personal greeting courtesy of MINI ID. All of this is possible without the smartphone ever having to be taken out of the driver’s pocket or handbag. Keys can be simply and securely passed on to friends or family from the Apple or Google Wallet using the native “Share” function familiar from many apps.

As part of the BMW Group, MINI benefits from BMW’s years of experience in managing over-the-air software updates. The new MINI family’s software architecture uses the same software platform for Remote Software Upgrades as the one that has been continuously developed at BMW since 2018 to provide secure and straightforward updates. Accordingly, the new MINIs will receive free Remote Software Upgrades several times a year for quality improvements.

REMOTE SOFTWARE UPGRADES ARE ALSO STANDARD FOR MINI.
