During the Suez Crisis at the end of the 1950s, people became aware of how finite resources are for the first time. The fear of an oil crisis with soaring costs gave engineer Alec Issigonis an idea: he took a napkin and sketched an economical compact car that conserved resources. The Mini developed into a cult car over the years, and has many prominent fans to this day. The car cuts a fine figure on the race track, too – its go-kart feel is still legendary today.
