At MINI we are inspired by people and companies who share our passion for sustainability and responsibility - and we selectively choose initiatives and collaborations that is founded on these two keywords, both locally and globally.
With this in mind it’s easy to understand why we at MINI and Balck Coffee since 2019 have found each other. Balck Coffee is the result of a burning commitment and a desire to change the coffee industry. It’s a company driven by passion, one of many things they have in common with MINI.
FROM PROFESSIONAL CYCLIST TO NATURAL COFFEE.
Balck Coffee was founded by Sebastian Balck. Balck Coffee imports specialty or natural coffee that stands out from the worldwide unsustainable industrial coffee production. By keeping the journey from plant to cup without intermediaries, with transparency and enormously decent conditions for producers, they offer nature coffee with quality and sustainability throughout the process. But that his previous employment as a competition cyclist would eventually lead him to start his own coffee roastery was far from obvious.
When an injury prevented Sebastian from continuing competing, the idea of starting his own coffee roastery started to grow. He started to explore specialty coffee and discovered the incredible problems that exist within the coffee industry.
“90% of all coffee today is produced completely unsustainably. Half of the coffee farmers cannot even cover their own production costs. I started to ask myself why this was the case and the dream and vision of challenging the coffee industry was born ", says Sebastian.
PERSONALITY AND PASSION ARE GOOD FOUNDATIONS FOR A COOPERATION.
Thanks to our collaboration with Balck, all Nordic MINI's dealers offer delicious, sustainable and ethically produced natural coffee from Mário Ferrari, a carefully selected producer from Brazil.
The collaboration came naturally from the first moment.
“We are interested in collaborating with people and companies who also want to make a difference. MINI has always felt like a challenger Quality and sustainability are something we have in common as well. A MINI is more than just a car, a fact we liked that very much. MINI talks about the car reflecting your personality and that the purchasing experience itself therefore also should be a more personal experience including all our senses. We asked MINI if they wanted to make a difference and they did. So we have found a really good set-up", says Sebastian.
We can relate to their journey from being a small toy-like car to really transforming into a premium brand. With that comes lifestyle and personality. That personal touch and feeling that we are all about is also found in the MINI brand ", he adds.
MINI AS COMPANY CAR.
Now, there was not only the shared value base between the two brands that made Sebastian and his employees to choose MINI as their company car. “I like speed and driving pleasure. MINI is super fun, it's like a small go-kart with a pilot compartment. I have always liked small compact cars. Not that they are that small anymore. I like cars that are not unnecessarily big, but urban, simple and fun to drive ", says Sebastian.
"MINI Countryman, for example, is a spacious and a good family car that is really nice to travel far in. It is superior to all classic station wagons," he continues.
The Plug-In Hybrid has also started to become a big favorite and Sebastian believes that more and more people will discover the fun of testing a more electric drive. “Now when my girlfriend and I mostly drive within Kalmar city center, it has really become a sport to drive as much electric as possible. When you realize how much money you save, it becomes even more fun ", he says with a laugh.
